Description / Interest
Center of Excellence in Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeleton was established in 2018 under the leadership of Professor Sittisak Honsawek, M.D., Ph.D., along with a team of multidisciplinary faculty and researchers. The center focuses on the research and study of osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases. This includes research related to the musculoskeletal system, such as mesenchymal stem cells, tissue engineering, bone substitutes, and orthobiologics innovations. The center is supported by the Faculty of Medicine and Chulalongkorn University.
The research team conducts both broad and deep applied research to develop knowledge on osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases. This encompasses the study of pathogenesis, disease mechanisms, biochemical biomarkers, and the application of new knowledge to benefit patients. The focus areas include disease diagnosis, screening, monitoring, treatment, and improving the quality of life for patients with osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal diseases.
The center collaborates with national and international organizations to extend research that maximizes patient benefits and advances knowledge in musculoskeletal diseases. It aims to be a repository of new knowledge that can be referenced nationally and internationally. The research conducted is aligned with the country’s needs, and over the past five years, the unit has consistently published numerous research papers in international journals. More than 50 research articles with high-impact factors have been published, with 80% of them ranked in the first quartile (Q1).
